The Sucker Creek restoration project is a collaborative effort initiated in 2021 with an investment by the Krier Foundation. Lakeshore Natural Resource Partnership and Ozaukee County Watershed Coalition joined the project in 2023 to assist with landowner outreach and identifying additional funding opportunities. Aimed at restoring what was historically wetland, the project focuses on revitalizing a 4-mile stretch of the creek by reducing channelization, removing invasive species such as reed canary grass and dead ash, and enhancing habitat for native fish species, particularly white and longnose suckers. Landowner investment is essential to this project’s success and longevity, as the creek runs predominately through private land. Designs for the restoration efforts are nearing completion, positioning the project as "shovel ready." The design team for this project includes: GRAEF, Fish Creek Restoration, and Native Range Ecological.
