The Sauk Creek Nature Preserve is a 27-acre conservation area managed by Ozaukee Washington Land Trust (OWLT), and includes half a mile of Sauk Creek. In 2022, Ozaukee County Watershed Coalition leveraged funding from the Fund for Lake Michigan and the Krier Foundation to support the development of a restoration project plan aimed at enhancing native habitats within the preserve and ensuring sustainable land management practices. OWLT and Lakeshore Natural Resource Partnership hired Stantec Consulting Services to complete a restoration plan, and are actively seeking funding to execute restoration activities, including native tree planting, invasive species management, and habitat improvements for Sauk Creek. This project aims to enhance biodiversity by improving habitats for fish, birds, bats, insects, and plant life in both the wetland and upland areas of the preserve. This will improve the community asset for Ozaukee County and contribute to the overall improvement of water quality in Lake Michigan.
