MISSION

The mission of Ulao Creek Partnership is to form an alliance of concerned citizens, landowners, and public and private organizations to protect and improve the water quality and natural habitats in the Ulao Creek Watershed.

GOALS

  • Restore and enhance the creek's natural resources

  • Improve water quality

  • Promote comprehensive watershed planning based on land use, natural resource protection, and enhancement

  • Stabilize/moderate water flows in the watershed

HISTORY

Since its formation in 1995, the Ulao Creek Partnership has served as an important connection between landowners, government officials, and other area non-profits in working to protect the habitat of the Ulao Creek Watershed and the surrounding areas. While activity and involvement has varied throughout the years, the organization carries on. UCP is grateful to the many who have given so much of their time and talents to keep the mission alive. They welcome new members to join them in continuing this important work.

CURRENT INITIATIVES

UCP has been working with Ozaukee County on the establishment of, and invasive species control at, the Ulao Creek Nature Preserve (formerly known as the Gateway site). They have also been restoring a portion of the upper creek in the Ulao swamp by re-meandering the creek for improved surface water hydrology (see below) and fish passage. UCP actively monitors water levels in the swamp and upper creek to assess potential reasons for sustained high water levels over the past decade.

Surface water hydrology: decreased runoff, increased water infiltration, and reduced flooding
